A live recording of my latest opera, The Open Cage, is up online. Enjoy.
The Open Cage premieres this weekend at The Yard in Hackney Wick. Book tickets here! Alone in his workshop, deep in the labyrinth which he built and in which he has been trapped for years, the great inventor Daedalus is putting the finishing touches to two giant pairs of wings... The Open Cage is a new one-act opera. Scored for two singers, with an ensemble of acoustic and electronic instruments, the piece uses an array of visual media in its unique retelling of the Icarus myth. Many congratulations to Sam Lee, whose album Ground Of Its Own has been nominated for the Mercury Music Prize 2012. Have a listen to The Tan Yard Side, which features a string arrangement of mine.
It has taken several years of playing in bands, but at last I have a gig in my own local music venue! Have had some cracking gigs with Chris recently, would be great to get some people down for this one. The Bedford is probably S London's best music venue, only 2 mins away from Balham station, so do come down if you're free. Tickets are now on sale for my opera based on Kipling's Just So Stories. Please visit www.justsoopera.com for details about the show, and help us out with our fundraising if you can spare a few quid. Turns out that last week's sound guy had a cunning little audio-out feature on his mixing desk... and Rivers Of England have uploaded some of the resultant live tracks! How about this version of The Meadow Sways? Yeah!? http://snd.sc/KHPxmT |
